The Plateau State Government has condemned an alleged attack involving officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) while carrying out their lawful duties along Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos.
The government described the incident as a serious concern and called on relevant security agencies to investigate the matter, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.
In a statement issued by the Plateau State Commissioner for Transport, the ministry said a video of the altercation involving the VIO officials was currently circulating on social media platforms.
“The Ministry considers the incident a serious affront to constituted authority and calls on the relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter, identify those responsible, and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full consequences of the law.”
The ministry maintained that government officials must be allowed to carry out their statutory responsibilities without violence, intimidation or obstruction.
It said the government would not tolerate actions capable of undermining the authority of its officials while performing their lawful duties.
“The Plateau State Government will not tolerate violence, intimidation, or obstruction directed at its officials in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.”
The statement urged members of the public who have grievances against government officials to seek redress through appropriate and lawful channels rather than taking the law into their own hands.
“The Plateau State Government remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting its officials, and ensuring the effective discharge of government responsibilities.”
