Police have arrested Tajudeen Baruwa after he led members of his faction to seize the national secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Abuja.

The arrest followed a dramatic takeover on Monday, when Baruwa and his supporters stormed the union’s headquarters, wresting control from the faction led by Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.

Reports indicate that the invasion occurred in the early hours of the day, intensifying the long-running leadership crisis within the union.

The NURTW has been embroiled in a power struggle since 2024, with rival factions led by Baruwa and MC Oluomo contesting control of the union’s leadership.

While union members elected MC Oluomo as National President in November 2024, the dispute later moved to court, where a ruling reportedly favoured Baruwa.

The latest development marks a fresh escalation in the leadership tussle, raising concerns over stability within the transport union.
