Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 transportation allowance for workers in Oyo State as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising petrol prices.

The development was disclosed by Kayode Martins, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Oyo State, in a statement released on Monday, March 23.

According to the statement, the approval followed a formal request and intervention by the NLC, aimed at addressing the growing burden of transportation costs on workers.

“Following the intervention and formal request made by the State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) earlier this morning, the state government has approved a N10,000 transportation allowance for all workers in the state,” Martins said.

The allowance is expected to take effect from April 2026, offering some relief to the state workforce amid prevailing economic challenges and fuel price increases.

The move comes after sustained advocacy by the NLC, which has been pushing for measures to ease the cost-of-living pressures on workers.

Further details regarding the implementation of the allowance are expected to be announced by the relevant authorities.
