In the beautiful, peaceful, and God-blessed District of Gyel, history gifted us a rare jewel and a king whose reign became a symbol of stability, wisdom, unity, and selfless service. His Royal Highness, Da. (Dr.) Nga Dangyang Dagwom, the Dagwom Rwei Jos South and Ambassador of Peace, was not merely a traditional ruler. He was an institution, a father, a custodian of culture, a bridge-builder, and a living testament that true leadership is measured by service rather than authority.
For sixty-six remarkable years, he occupied the precious throne not as one who sought power, but as one who carried the burdens of his people with dignity and unwavering commitment. Few men are privileged to witness such longevity in leadership, and even fewer leave behind a legacy so deeply engraved in the hearts of generations.
His reign spanned decades of transformation. He watched children become parents, parents become grandparents, and generations rise under the shelter of his wise counsel. Through changing times, political transitions, social evolution, and moments of uncertainty, Da. (Dr.) Nga Dangyang remained a constant source of hope, stability, and direction. Like an ancient tree with deep roots, he stood firm while providing shade for everyone who came seeking comfort.
He led with wisdom when confusion threatened the land.
He led with strength when challenges confronted the people.
He led with resilience when circumstances demanded endurance.
He led with determination when difficult decisions had to be made.
Above all, he led with love.
The greatness of a king is not determined by the length of his reign alone but by the peace he leaves behind. Our royal father did not build monuments of stone; he built monuments in human hearts. He settled disputes with fairness, promoted unity above division, encouraged peace over conflict, and reminded us that leadership is a sacred trust bestowed by God.
His voice carried authority without oppression.
His humility reflected true greatness.
His wisdom transcended generations.
His presence inspired confidence.
His smile brought reassurance.
His prayers strengthened families.
His counsel shaped destinies.
To many, he was a monarch.
To countless others, he was a father.
To Gyel District, he was the soul of our heritage.
To Jos South, he was a symbol of dignity.
To Plateau State, he was an icon of peace.
His title as Ambassador of Peace was not merely ceremonial, it was earned through decades of promoting harmony, reconciliation, understanding, and mutual respect among his people. He believed that peace was the strongest foundation upon which any community could thrive, and he devoted his life to preserving it.
Today, the throne mourns.
The palace mourns.
Gyel mourns.
Jos South mourns.
Plateau mourns.
Indeed, every life touched by this extraordinary king mourns.
Yet even in our grief, we celebrate. We celebrate a life exceptionally well lived. We celebrate sixty-six years of unwavering service. We celebrate a father whose footprints will remain visible for generations yet unborn. We celebrate a king whose greatest achievement was not simply occupying a throne, but occupying the hearts of his people.
Death may silence the voice of a great monarch, but it can never erase the echoes of his wisdom.
Time may pass, but it cannot diminish the value of his legacy.
Generations may come and go, but they will continue to speak of the noble king who led with integrity and compassion.
As for me, I consider myself truly blessed and honoured to have lived in the era of such an exceptional patriarch. I am proud to have experienced the fatherly love, wisdom, and remarkable leadership of Da. (Dr.) Nga Dangyang Dagwom Rwei Jos South. His life has become a standard against which leadership should be measured.
Though our hearts are heavy, we submit to the perfect will of Almighty God, knowing that every journey has its appointed end. Our royal father has completed his earthly assignment and has returned to his Maker to receive the eternal reward reserved for faithful servants.
The throne may appear empty today, but it will forever remain full of memories.
The palace may become quieter, but his teachings will continue to speak.
The king has departed, yet his legacy will reign forever.
May the Almighty God comfort the entire Royal Family, the Jamang family, the traditional institution, the good people of Gyel District, Jos South, and everyone whose life was touched by this extraordinary man.
