Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on Monday visited the scene of the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, where he broke down in tears while commiserating with grieving families.
The visibly emotional governor, who toured the Gari Ya Waye community, described the attack as heinous and heartbreaking, vowing that those responsible would be brought to justice.
During the visit, Mutfwang announced that the state government would organize a befitting burial for those killed and take full responsibility for the medical treatment of injured victims currently receiving care in hospitals.
He also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to collaborate with government in tackling security challenges and restoring peace across the state. He further stated that those who earlier made insightful comments, predicating such attacks are being arrested
“We must work together to end this cycle of violence and build a united and peaceful Plateau,” the governor said.
Responding on behalf of the youths, Plateau Youth Council Zonal Coordinator, Samson Chiroma, commended the governor for visiting the community.
Chiroma disclosed that 26 bodies were initially recovered from the scene, with two additional deaths recorded in hospitals, bringing the total number of fatalities to 28.
He described the attack as “well-coordinated and calculated,” alleging that prior threats had been circulated on social media before the incident. He urged authorities to investigate the warnings and ensure those responsible are prosecuted.
Similarly Comrade Panan Gongden Dapar, State Plateau Youth Council chairman also called for urgent and decisive action by government and security agencies, while noting efforts by community leaders to restrain youths from reprisals despite rising tension.
In response to the attack, the Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Governor Mutfwang urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
