Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, professionally known as Mr P, has publicly tendered an apology to Nigerians over his “Who Naija language help?” comment.

DAILY POST reports that the singer had earlier questioned the value and importance of Nigerian languages.

He made the remark while responding to one of his followers on X.

The statement sparked controversy online, with many berating him.

Reacting to the backlash on X, Peter Okoye, who had earlier told his critics to do their worst, saying, “Again and again. Who Nigerian language help? If e pain you, go hit your head for wall,” however bowed to pressure and apologised to the general public.

He wrote on Wednesday evening: “If my response to ‘Who Naija language help?’ upset some people, I apologise and take full responsibility for my words. That does not mean I hate our Nigerian languages or culture.

“At no point did I say I hate the Igbo language or Igbo culture. I said ‘Naija language,’ referring to the different languages in Nigeria, but some individuals twisted it and made it seem like I specifically mentioned Igbo. I didn’t,” he stated.
