Nigerian Army arrests herder over alleged farm destruction in Benue

Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have apprehended a herder over alleged destruction of farmland in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State.

A counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, made this known in a post on X.

Makama noted that the troops, stationed at Anule, responded to a report of farm destruction in the area at about 12:00 p.m. on May 3.

He stressed that upon arrival, the troops reportedly found a herder grazing cattle on cultivated farmland, causing significant damage to crops.

“The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and necessary action.

“Efforts are ongoing to prevent further incidents and ensure peaceful coexistence between farming and herding communities in the area,” the security expert said.
