One soldier killed, another injured in Imo ambush

One soldier has been killed and another injured after troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade were ambushed by suspected terrorists in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo state.

The incident was disclosed by security analyst, Zagazola Makama in a post on his X platform on Tuesday.

According to security sources quoted by Makama, the attack occurred at about 12:53 p.m. on May 4 along the SPDC–Etekuru road, where the troops had been deployed to assess a burnt Hilux vehicle.

The troops reportedly came under heavy gunfire immediately upon arrival at the scene, leading to a fierce exchange with the assailants.

In the aftermath of the ambush, one soldier was confirmed killed in action, while another sustained injuries. The attackers were said to have made away with two AK-47 rifles and also partially damaged a military vehicle.

Reinforcements were swiftly deployed to the area, forcing the attackers to retreat.

Further exploitation of the scene led to the discovery of two burnt vehicles and the bodies of two individuals. The corpses were subsequently evacuated to a hospital morgue for investigation.
